This four episode mini-series
appeared on Showtime and was written and directed by Lee Rose (An
Unexpected Love, The Truth About Jane). Each hour focuses on the
stories of the patients of psychiatrist Dr. Beth Noonan (Stockard Channing, Bright
Young Things, The Business of Strangers,The
Truth About Jane, The First Wives Club, Bitter Moon, "Out
of Practice"), framed by their visits to her New York City office. S.
Epatha Merkerson (Lackawanna Blues,
She's Gotta Have It, "Law & Order") is the receptionist.
In the opening segment, Lauren (Elle Macpherson, Sirens),
a partner in a law firm, comes in to discuss her first relationship with a woman,
and we see them meet when they are both on a blind date with boring men. Casey
(Kate Capshaw, The Love Letter) is a bisexual ad exec, and when they get
together later, they're a nice match. The love scenes are classy and erotic. Unfortunately,
Lauren's best friend Claire (Kelly Rowan, The Truth About Jane, "The
O.C.") begins spreading gossip about her around the office and strongly disapproves.
Eventually, Lauren's insecurities and the pressures of the world's judgments get
to her. Other segments star Rebecca De Mornay, Mia Farrow, Linda Hamilton,
Glenn Headley (Eulogy, Timecode, Bastard Out of Carolina),
Allison Janney (Primary Colors, Nurse
Betty, The Hours, "The West Wing," Strangers with
Candy), Camryn Manheim, Lynn Whitfield (The Women of Brewster Place,
"Heartbeat") and Peta Wilson ("La Femme Nikita"). |
