Before D.E.B.S.
the feature film came D.E.B.S. the
short that garnered awards on the film festival circuit and appeared at Sundance.
Angela Robinson's ("The L Word," Fabulous!)
spy spoof created a buzz and great anticipation of the feature length version. There
is a secret test hidden in the S.A.T. It measures a student's innate ability to
lie, cheat, fight and kill. Those who score well are recruited into a secret paramilitary
academy. They call themselves D.E.B.S. When Amy (Alex Breckenridge, Orange
County) is kidnapped by super spy Lucy in the Sky (Clare Kramer, Glory in
"Buffy"), it's up to the other girls to rescue her. The action parody
is hilarious. Little do they know what they think are yelps of pain are actually
cries of passion. Amy and Lucy are in love and must meet like this to continue
their illicit affair. The rescue is led by Max (Tammy Lynn Michaels), with Dominique
(Shanti Lowry) and Janet (Jill Ritchie). Ritchie is the only one in this cast
who also appears in the feature length version. Highly recommended. It,
along with three other shorts, may be purchased on Girls
on Film II, a dvd created by Power UP!.
