I'm not even going to attempt
to describe Exotica's non-linear plot. It involves intertwined lives connected
to a strip club called Exotica. Christina (Mia Kirshner, "The L Word,"
Not Another Teen Movie, Love
& Human Remains, New Best Friend)
performs there. Her ex-boyfriend Eric (Elias Koteas) is the DJ. Her most devoted
client (Bruce Greenwood, A Girl Thing) is
a man whose daughter she used to babysit when she was younger. There are all kinds
of connections between these people and others. The club owner Zoe (Arsinée
Khanjian) is pregnant by contract with Eric. At one point, Christina touches Zoe's
belly, and after they talk, Zoe kisses her. Were they lovers at some point? Nothing
is explained about this interaction. It's a film that leaves you wondering.
It's abstract and very open to interpretation. If you're a Mia Kirshner fan, you
will probably enjoy not only the kiss, but her strip performances that pop up
throughout the movie. |
