Robin Greenspan and Lacie
Harmon (playing themselves) are cast in a play in which they are lovers. Robin
is in a long term relationship with Audrey (Katherine Randolph), while Lacie seems
commitment phobic. As part of the preparation for the production, the director
(Dom DeLuise) works with them to get to know one another better, to make believable
lovers. Lacie has no problem spilling out the details of her past loves,
but Robin is more uptight. She's in therapy with her partner, but hates it, and
her life seems to revolve around creating domestic bliss. Lacie loves picking
up women in bars, since she doesn't have to worry about living up to someone else's
expectations. Two very different women. As rehearsals progress with kissing
and making out, the lines between fiction and reality begin to blur. Both the
characters and the actresses begin to feel love and lust for one another, causing
confusion for both of them. Will they break the barrier and go for it? Much
of the film involves monologues, a creative way of presenting their stories. Both
are very interesting, fleshed out characters with real relationship issues, played
by two great actresses. Surprisingly, Dom DeLuise is also a bright spot as the
gay director of the play, and not too far over the top. A very original production
in the world of lesbian films! |
