Imagine this ... a cute romantic
comedy with a happy lesbian ending ... with great acting and production values,
released by a major studio. Imagine Me and You is all of this, a feel good
movie that is just a breath of fresh air. No gnarly coming out issues or heavy
politics, just two cute young women who fall in love at first sight. It's
Rachel's (Piper Perabo, Lost and Delirious) wedding day, and she walks
down the aisle to marry Heck (Matthew Goode), a really nice, intelligent guy.
At the reception, they meet Luce (Lena Headey, Possession,
Mrs. Dalloway, "Band of Gold"), the florist whom Rachel caught
a glimpse of before the nuptials. Soon afterward, Rachel invites Luce over for
dinner in their London flat, presumably as a double date for their friend Cooper
(Darren Boyd). To Coop's disappointment, Luce is a lesbian (or a "vagitarian"
as he puts it). The two women begin to conveniently bump into one another
on a regular basis, and although Rachel is confused at first, it is she who does
a bit of the chasing. Heck realizes something is off in their new marriage, and
eventually he figures out that his wife is in love with the florist. The
attraction between the two women is so real, just a look across the room is filled
with energy. It's all about the love of their lives, and although Rachel is guilt
ridden, it's Heck who convinces her to follow her heart without settling for second
best. It's a pleasant romantic comedy that will keep you smiling. Also of
note is a sweet and funny performance from Anthony Head ("Buffy") as
Rachel's father. |
