In a small town in Quebec,
the tide suddenly stops. It is her birthplace, so seismologist Alice (Pascale
Bussières, La Repetition, Girls Can't Swim, Emporte-moi,
When Night Is Falling) is sent
to investigate. There she gets involved in a local story about a woman who died
in the bay, and she becomes attracted to Marc (Jean-Nicolas Verreault), the man
who lost his wife. At the same time, Catherine (Julie Gayet) arrives to cover
the story for a magazine, knowing that Alice may be there. They're old friends
from college, and Catherine is in love with her. It's an odd story about
longing and sensitivity, with beautiful and stunning photography. Alice and Catherine
are both sexy and sensual, as part of the mood of the film, although they do not
end up with one another. It seems part of the natural rhythm that Alice connects
with Marc, and Catherine hooks up with a local female cop ... and the tide comes
in again.
