Betty (Renee Zellweger, Bridget
Jones: The Edge of Reason) is a waitress with a philandering jerk of a
husband (Aaron Eckhart, Your Friends
and Neighbors, Possession) and an
obsession with her soap opera, "A Reason to Love" and its star doctor
(Greg Kinnear). One night she's at home watching a tape of the show when she sees
her husband murdered by hit men Charlie (Morgan Freeman) and Wesley (Chris Rock,
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). From the shock, she becomes delusional
and believes that the show is real, running off to Los Angeles to find the hospital
where the show takes place. She doesn't know that the trunk of the car contains
a large quantity of drugs, and the men who killed her husband are now after her. The
new Nurse Betty believes she is Dr Ravell's former fiancé and doesn't snap
out of her delusions until the actor berates her as a crazy on the set. When the
hit men catch up to her, her friends tell them about her delusions. Wesley likes
the character of Jasmine on the soap, and as they sit and watch that day's show,
he gets upset when finding out that Jasmine (Sung Hi Lee) is a lesbian. "Jasmine
ain't no dyke. She's just trying to find herself." We see her kiss the character
of Chloe (Elizabeth Mitchell, Gia, "ER"). Allison Janney
(Primary Colors, A
Girl Thing, The Hours, "The West Wing," Strangers
with Candy) is great as the soap's producer. Directed by Neil LaBute (Your
Friends and Neighbors). |
