Broken Hearts Club
revolves around the lives and loves of a group of gay men in West Hollywood: a
hunky actor, a cynical guy, a photographer with the eye for something more, a
drama queen, a punky guy, a wannabe intellectual, and a new kid just coming out
of the closet. All are looking for love, but for the most part are unhappy about
their lives. The friends hang out and kvetch together, work at the same restaurant,
play on the same softball team, go to the same parties, and support each other
when they need to. Thrown in is a lesbian sub-plot - the dreaded lesbian
baby theme. Patrick (Ben Weber, Kissing
Jessica Stein) is one of the guys in the group. His sister Anne (Mary
McCormack) is a lesbian, and she and her partner Leslie (Nia Long, If These
Walls Could Talk 2) approach Patrick for a sperm donation. He eventually agrees,
and we get to see the mandatory masturbating at the clinic scene and bonding over
the sonogram. Nothing to get too excited about.
