This documentary series follows
four transgender college students as they deal with personal discoveries, family
issues and financial and academic challenges during the school year. Two female
to male (FTM) and two male to female (MTF) young people open up their lives. TJ
is Armenian and came from Cyprus to Michigan State University, where he is a graduate
student. FTM, TJ has not begun a physical transformation. He is obligated to return
to Cyprus by the terms of his Fulbright Scholarship, but his mother is clear that
he cannot be "gay" in Cyprus. TJ is the only one of the four students
in a relationship, with a girlfriend who is fine with his male identity. Lucas
is a FTM senior at Smith College, dealing with the complexities of identifying
as male at an all women's school. His best friend Kasey undergoes top surgery,
while Lucas begins taking testosterone after careful consideration. Visits with
family in Oklahoma go well. Raci is a Filipina freshman at Cal State LA.
Hearing impaired, she is pre-op MTF and so feminine that she usually easily passes
as a woman. Raci is on an academic scholarship and struggles financially, buying
hormones on the street and living in a boarding house where she shares a bed with
her aunt. Gabby is a sophomore MTF at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Somewhat self centered and a social misfit, identifying as a lesbian or perhaps
bisexual, she undergoes sex reassignment surgery. Her parents are easily able
to afford the required $15,000, although they struggle with understanding Gabby
and her obsession with the surgery. |
