Samantha (Alexandra Paul,
Breaking Up Really Sucks) and her partner Dana (Michelle Wolff, The
Ten Rules, Mango Kiss, "Dante's
Cove") both work for the same company as computer security experts. One
day Samantha and her teenage daughter Gwen set off for some time together at a
day spa on the California coast. They never make it. A group of cheesy Eastern
European kidnappers force the women off the road and grab them, threatening her
daughter's life if Samantha will not unencrypt a secret document. They are held
in an abandoned hotel where Gwen is tied up and her mother gets to work on the
laptop. She secretly emails a call for help to Dana while feverishly decoding
to save their lives. While Dana tries to locate them, a local police officer
(Nicholas Turturro) manages to help Samantha and Gwen stand up to the kidnappers.
Many chase scenes and hide and seek battles ensue until mother, daughter and partner
are all safe together again. Although at times feeling like the television
movie that it is, this thriller is generally suspenseful and well acted (although
the chase scenes go on forever). It is a kidnapping story that happens to involve
a lesbian couple, rather than the relationship itself being the major focus.
