This is a charming French
comedy about a group of twenty-something friends who work together in a small
publishing company that produces sci-fi novels and comic books. The staff consists
of three lesbians, a straight woman and a gay man. Camille (Amira Casar)
lives with her girlfriend Ariane (Alexandra London), and her mother is very supportive
and liberal. Eva (Julie Gayet) shares an apartment with Nico (Bruno Putzulu),
and her parents believe that he is her longtime boyfriend. She lusts after Tina
(Montse Mostaza), who draws lesbian manga comics. Nico isn't out to his family
either, and he takes Lili (Carmen Chaplin, the straight woman in the office) to
his soccer team functions to pass. Camille's mother Josepha (Brigitte Roüan)
wants to be helpful and invites all of the parents for a coming out dinner party.
The reactions are decidedly mixed, from acceptance to disgust, and it leads to
a surprising revelation and some unexpected results. The parents are all interesting
characters themselves. Very pleasant to watch, and it's a coming out comedy
that's fun, without high drama tears. It can be hard to find in the US, but is
available in the UK or France. |
